A vintage iron trivet finds new life recycled as a frame for a mini-collage project featuring gorgeous scenery paper from Memory Box.
The remnants of the broken six-inch tile were removed from the vintage trivet - a perfect six-inch frame! Memory Box Butterfield paper features rolling hills, butterfly gardens and gorgeous scenery, and was used as a 'cardstock tile'.
Using a complementary print from the Butterfield 6x6 paper pack and Tim's Design Ruler for speed and precision, a line was drawn on the wrong side, then cut using pinking shears. This snippet was machine sewn to a decorative piece of Butterfield paper to form the 6x6 'cardstock tile'.
Memory Box Thicket Birds were stamped onto Neenah Classic Cream cardstock with Archival ink in Jet Black, then dressed with a snippet of Butterfield paper. Cardstock edges were inked with an Ink Blending Tool and Antique Linen Distress pad, followed by Vintage Photo and Walnut Ink Distress pads for an aged effect.
This next technique mimics a sun-kissed highlight: Using a Versamark pen, color areas of the Thicket Birds image that you want to be have highlighted. Next, using a dry brush, carefully apply a bit of Perfect Pearls Perfect Gold to the Versamarked areas. Please use caution to prevent Perfect Pearls product from becoming airborne.
The vintage iron trivet contains four lip corners (tweezers point to one corner - above left photo), used to support the tile. We're going to use these to hold a 6x6 piece of acetate to protect the 'cardstock tile' from dust and fingerprints. To conceal the adhesive in the corners, I constructed black cardstock corners and held them in place against the acetate with brads (above middle photo). The 6x6 'cardstock tile' was mounted to the back of the trivet - shadow-box style. This was to provide a gap between the 6x6 'cardstock tile' and the protective acetate - to basically prevent the 3-D button from pressing uncomfortably into the acetate cover.
