I remember the day that Making Memories came out with their book that was filled with pocket cards. It had us all on the edge of our seats as we created these magnificent beauties. It has been a long time since I made a card using a pocket, but when I visited the Hero Arts blog recently there were some absolutely fabulous pocket cards on display and I knew that I just had to get with the program once again and create a pocket card Ü
Kim Hughes paper pack, Mocha Chica, has a couple of awesome sheets that are called "Flavour Blasts". These sheets have little "sayings on them. I elected to use one of these, cutting it out with the smallest Curved Rectangle die and attaching it by sewing to the "Extra Whip" sheet of patterned paper.
To create my pocket I cut my cardstock lengthwise with the finished size being 4 1/4" x 11". I inserted this under one edge of a coordinating curved rectangle and feed it through my machine only until I felt the front edge grab and cut. I then reversed my handle and rolled it back out. This allowed me to cut my leading edge only.
I cut a coordinating piece of "Green Tea" to accent the front of my pocket.
Next I stamped the mushrooms from Spring Trees across the front of my panel, in a tone on tone color scheme. I wanted the added texture, but did not want them to take the place of the focal point.
I then positioned my two little birds so that when I attached my stump and colored birds they would have legs. Yes, I find it difficult to cut out legs and so I just prefer to cut them off and stamp others in their place Ü
Being that I didn't have any coordinating ribbon I decided to make some. I have brought two different white ribbons in to our store so that we can make coordinating ribbon. I decided to try two different methods. I found that the colors where two far apart on the color wheel to actually have all three look good - where the colors ran together the color combo wasn't what I liked and so I opted to go with the fresher, cleaner look of the two stripes. The look on the right would work better if you were using colors that were closer to one another on the color wheel.
I also needed a fun marigold colored flower and so using one of the white Art Flowers I also colored it with my Copic marker. Copic markers make it SO easy to always have coordinating embellishments.
I attached my colored pieces, flowers, buttons and brads, adding a little sewing around the pocket to hold it together and add a little more zip to the color combo. I now have a sweet little pocket card that can be used for a number of different occasions for that someone special!
