With Valentines right around the corner I thought I would share an idea that popped in to my head the other day. What cuter way to let someone special know that you are excited for their upcoming future than by sharing a special "baby" Valentine with them.
When I receive new images it is funny how the wheels just get turning and for some reason I thought that this little rattle could be used as Cupid's Bow, running through a heart. Sure enough it fit quite well with the new Memory Box Heart! In hindsight it dawned on me that I should have made it appear to run "through" the heart, but that is something that I think you could easily do if you would like to make something similar.
Karen Lockhart shared this cute little heart template with me over a year ago, but I just didn't have time to do anything with it. I'm not certain where she found it, or if she created it - but I can't take credit for coming up with this design. What I have done to make it easier for you is, I have created it in PDF format so that you can easily put it to use this Valentines. Just click on the link highlighted below.
This heart is THE perfect size for creating this cute little Valentine pouch out of a piece of 6" x 6" paper. So guess what that means - it works perfectly with plain paper and a Scrapblock as well! For this heart I used Robin's Egg cardstock together with the Daisy Chain Scrapblock.
What was even more incredible was that the shape was perfect with the Scalloped Heart Nesties (I apologize for running out of these yet again - I should have known better and ordered differently being I know that Valentines is right around the corner. More are on order, but I am not certain when they will be arriving.) I cut the patterned heart from Urban Prairie paper using my largest Scalloped Heart.
The largest solid yellow heart, that I lined the interior of my pocket with, was cut by hand from a coordinating yellow paper in the Urban Prairie line of papers and the smaller yellow heart was cut using a Classic Heart shape (which unfortunately we are also almost out of, if the previous link doesn't bring them up it means we are now out - I'm so sorry about this.)
TIP: If you have a template already cut out of cardstock it is SO simple to trace around it using the small tip of a dry embossing stylus. This will keep you from that inevitable step of erasing, if you trace with a pencil first. See how the stylus marks your cardstock well enough to see your cut line!
If you are using a printed template using the document above, adhere the template to your cardstock with temporary adhesive. Cut out along solid lines and then score on dotted lines.
I adore solid images because they allow me to use them in so many different ways. I first inked up the image above using two different colors of pigment ink. One color alone didn't quite blend with the other products I was using and so by adding a slightly bluer green around the edges it helped to bring my colors closer together. I then kissed or stamped the solid image on to the uninked Ornamental Vines backgrounder. I could have added yet another color of ink to my backgrounder before they "kissed" (this just makes me giggle - stamps kissing - ha, ha!) but being I wanted the rattle to be the focal point I elected to stay with a solid color.
I stamped the rattle on white cardstock and colored it with a combination of Copic markers (Y21 and BG72) highlighting the image with Prismacolor color pencils and added a little bling.
The ribbon slider tag was cut from this same yellow paper and I used the new "just waiting for you" sentiment for the message. Rather than inking the little heart at the end of the sentiment I placed a Twinkle Heart in its place to help draw more attention to the sentiment. The ribbon holding it in place is from the Basic Grey Recess collection.
I challenge you to try making a heart shaped valentine this year! Use the template above and share a link in the comments section below so that everyone who comes here to visit can see your creation as well! Thanks for stopping by the CLASSroom again today. -Ellen
