Today I'd like to share a card made with a Kim Hughes stamp set, Ahoy, Matey --what a fun little set!I think that the biggest challenge on this card, besides figuring out what to do with so many pieces in a layout, was simply deciding what colors to make the bird. I eventually Googled "tropical bird" and picked a bird from this puzzle to emulate. (What did we ever do before search engines?)
To get him sitting on the branch properly, I first stamped the parrot, then stamped an extra parrot on Eclipse masking paper. I trimmed the mask very closely and laid it over the main image before stamping the branch. After coloring both images, I used a Copic airbrush system and marker BG15 to give the sky a light tint. (Branch is from The Landing Pad set.)
Here is a finished close-up of the parrot, complete with a gold earring (Spica gold glitter pen), and some nose bling (I couldn't resist--he was so dapper!) Copic markers that I used are pictured below.
For the large skull, I used some Versamagic inks in gray and black, then added a red button for the larger eye and a googlie eye for the smaller one. Sentiment is embossed in detail white embossing powder and stamped on some Memory box Holly Berry cardstock, sanded to get a white edge and add an extra visual layer. I sewed a few seams before mounting the card front. Paper is from Kim's Mocha Chica collection--fun and quite versatile once you really start looking for ways to incorporate it!
I hope you have a lovely day. Thanks for visiting!
