A cold chill hit Texas this morning and it put me in the mood for snow and Christmas (and some hot cocoa!). This Lockhart Snowy Tree with Birds image was perfect for my mood and to warm it up a bit, I chose this lucious red patterned cardstock from Memory Box's new holiday release 6-inch collection, Gingercake.
The tree was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa ink (I felt this gave a softer look to the tree than stamping it with black) on Neenah Natural White cardstock and colored with these Copic markers:
The snow was colored with a white Prismacolor pencil and I also covered up the Cocoa inked parts of the snow, to soften it up a bit. Then I covered the snow with clear Spica glitter pen . . . hopefully you can see the nice snowy effect this made:
Yellow Spica glitter pen accents the tree's star. The tree was cut out with a Spellbinders Petite Classic Oval Nestabilities die. To help that star give the appearance of a soft glow all around the tree, I airbrushed Copic Y21 around the edges of the die-cut tree.
But I forgot to keep the die in place while airbrushing, so I would have a nice white border around my image, so I went back and used the Copic Colorless Blender to remove the yellow color from the embossed edge:
So that's a good tip to remember if you make a mistake with your Copic markers -- you can usually fix just about any mistake by removing it with the Blender!
I couldn't bear to cut off much of the beautiful red background patterned cardstock, so I frequently use the same trick Ellen mentioned -- I took the front package labeled piece of cardstsock, trimmed away the labeling and used that (it's the same cardstock as the whole package)! I just cut the large dotted pattern off the right side and used it as a faux ribbon effect by trimming one end with scalloped scissors and inking the edges with Tuxedo Black Memento ink.
The Lockhart 'Season's Greetings' sentiment's words were inked and stamped separately. The card base is a Memory Box Dill notecard. Have you started your holiday cards yet?!!
