Fall is MOST definitely in the air. As I drove to work this morning my breath was taken away as I drove down Gilman Boulevard, surrounded by THE most gorgeous red, orange and yellow leaves! I'm not quite certain what it is about the dramatic color nature provides, but it just makes me feel so good inside.
Today's card started out in a whole different direction than it ended.
As you can see I had colored this image and had embossed it making it a very clean and simple look. This little piece had been stored in my pile of colored images for some time now. It was one of those pieces that I created and then thought that something else would be better for the project I was working on.
When I saw the newest CHF backgrounder, Scratchy Straw, I knew just the piece that I wanted to use with it. What is more appropriate for a Scarecrow image than straw?!? I selected an Eggshell notecard and inked the backgrounder with Scattered Straw Distress Ink. Being that my original colored piece was pristine I knew I had to "rough it up."
I cut my image down in size and then using the Tonic Distressor, aged the paper edges. Using a stipple brush I then dappled the Scratchy Straw ink over the entire image. Yeah - no longer was it pristine white!
To create the blanket stitching it is important to first pierce your paper, otherwise you will end up tearing your paper as you work. I am truly in love with this new ruler and can't believe that I didn't know about it for such a long time! It is so simple to align it with the edge of your project and pierce the entire length!!! Yippie! Also the gridlines help keep you piercing on the 1/4" as I did in this project.
To create the blanket stitch I am sharing the picture above as well as a link to the Simplicity site where they explain exactly how to complete this stitch. Using a wonderful orange from a fall raffia collection I have added just enough texture to truly make this project feel rustic.
Just a few buttons to help complete the look and I'm definitely in the mood for a warm blanket and a cup of tea Ü But I'd best get busy with the next project - always scrambling! Never enough time in the day to just sit back and relax - LOL!
I hope this inspires you to look at those odd pieces that you have created and are just sitting awaiting a project to bring them to life. Change is good sometimes - I think this ended up a lot better than it started. What do you think?
