Are you loving the amazing creations you've seen with the color layering stamps? Me too! Are you a little intimidated? I was too! But guess what, it's really easy and super fun! Here's what I've learned...
Q. Which inks can you use?
A. Any inks! Creating pretty, coordinating combos is actually very fun but it's nice to get started with colors that are designed to work together. Conveniently Hero Arts and Altenew have both created cube sets. Check them out here:

Q. How do you line up the layers?
A. Altenew has created layering guides, which you can find here and Hero Arts provides pics on their packaging like this:
However I found even with the guides, it takes a little practice. So plan on practicing first! Grab that scratch paper and just play around with the same stamps and colors of ink until you get the feel. Acrylic blocks with a grid or a MISTI (or Mini MISTI) are also very helpful.The key for me was finding the spot on each layer I could align, like the very top of the tree or the pointed petal on the flower.
Let me show you how easy it is to create with these stamps...
Start with a sentiment.
Stamp the base layer (usually the solid image) with the lightest color of ink. Please note, the picture is a little misleading because my stamp was stained dark but the color of ink I was using was actually the very pale Altenew Blush.
Stamp the next layer in the next lightest color of ink.
Stamp the third layer with the darkest ink you are using. For the flowers, I didn't stamp the last layer in the darkest ink because I liked just the 3 layers but the final layer is the outline of the flower.
Cut a mask for the flower and use to protect the flowers while stamping the leaves outline image in brown.
Once your stamps are stained and a bit harder to see through, stamping in a reverse order (last layer first) can be easier to see and more forgiving.
The layers also look cool using just one or two...
To create this card, stamp the base layer of the flowers & leaves from the Altenew Remember This set on the bottom third of the card in white. Add the snow from the Hero Arts Color Layering Snowy Tree set, to the top.
Add the second layer of the flowers & leaves in blue dye ink like Hero Arts Navy.
And a really cool thing about color layering stamps, they create beautiful single layer cards.
To create the card, stamp the base layer of the tree from the Hero Arts Color Layering Snowy Tree set in dark brown ink.
Stamp and emboss the second layer in white.
Add some stars with VersaMark, a gold glitter star and a few sequins.
