MASKING TO OMIT
The first form of masking I'm showing you is how to mask off part of a stamp you may not want to use:
As you can see, this stamp has a 'Merry Christmas' sentiment I wanted to omit, so I could use the stamp for other occasions. The steps are simple:
- Tear off a piece of Eclipse Masking Tape
-
Cover the part of the stamp you don't want inked with the tape
- Ink up stamp
-
Remove tape and stamp the image
Finish with 'happy birthday' sentiment stamped onto tag die cut. The result . . . a humerous (at least I hope the recipient thinks so!) birthday card.

REVERSE MASKING
Ellen Hutson LLC supplies used:
- Spellbinders Nested Bird die (available soon) and Tags die template
- Cornish Heritage Farms French Script backgrounder
- Mona Lisa Moments Script Essential Expressions
- Eclipse Masking Tape
- Copic Airbrush System & Sketch marker
- BasicGrey Scarlet's Letter 6x6 patterned cardstock
- Tsukineko Memento Rich Cocoa ink
-
Neutral Art Flowers
For this card, I created a reverse mask in this manner:
1. Roll out and stick a large piece of Eclipse Masking Tape to thin scrap cardstock and die cut with the bird template:
2. Use the cut out bird (still stuck to scrap cardstock) as a guide to find the exact placement on the patterned cardstock:
3. Carefully remove Eclipse tape from the scrap cardstock reverse mask you created. Using the bird as a placement guide, stick the reverse mask to the patterned cardstock:
4. Remove cut out bird from the center of the reverse mask. Make sure all edges of the tape are pressed down firmly to the patterned cardstock. Airbrush the patterned cardstsock inside the mask area with Copic Airbrush System and Copic Sketch marker:
5. With the reverse mask still in place, stamp with backgrounder and Memento ink:
TIP: Before stamping, be sure the backgrounder isn't upside down like mine was!
Finish card with 'many thanks' sentiment stamped onto tag die cut and small neutral flower accent. I'll be showing you another form of masking tomorrow over at the CLASSroom . . . I hope you'll drop over to see.
