Just a quick explanation tonight on the second of the butterfly cards that I created using the new Butterfly Wishes set from Papertrey Ink.
I love high contrast and bright colors. I thought you might find it interesting to see it the way I had originally photographed it. After taking a quick peek at the previous gallery I thought I had better change out that brilliant blue background or it would come screaming off the page - LOL!
When I saw the "little pieces" that were included with this set my mind immedietely glommed on to the Cuttlebug background that is called Bloom Dots. To make a stark contrast to this background I used the straight line butterfly inking it with the New Canvas Palette ink and stamping it on an overhead transparency. I like to use the medium weight transparencies that are intended for use in a laser printer. Using the Palette inks on transparencies requires that you give it a quick burst of heat to dry the ink. Then I followed with the outline butterfly - using the clear stamps made it easy to get my image centered perfectly over my previously stamped butterfly. One thing that I will note is that the outline of the butterfly is not the exact same size as the inner designs and so I used my little fine-tipped scissors and cut it out to give it a neat trim appearance. But before cutting I adhered the micro twinkle stickers to be certain that there would be enough transparency in place to hold the three stickers. I'm in love with these little jewels and am always looking for a spot to use them on my cards. I don't know if you can see it, but I used one to dot the "i" in wishes as well :D
I'm sort of an over-the-top detail person and so I punched out 5/8" circles from the red cardstock, aligning them with the pattern in the black background. Within these circles I adhered the little images from the "Butterfly Wishes" set. My reasoning for placing these little circles down in the holes was so that I would have a smooth surface on which I could stamp my sentiment. In hindsight I wish I had embossed the greeting so that it would stand out just a little more, but... what's a girl to do when she's in a creative hurry - LOL! I scored the red cardstock using my Scor-It board to give it added dimension and layered it on the bright blue to make it pop.
The final step was to attach the butterflies to the project. This is where that wonderful red sticky tape came in so useful. Just a little tiny strip down the body of the butterfly in behind the twinkle stickers and voila a beautiful transparent butterfly in flight. Now if I were really sending this card to someone I would probably have to use an oversize envelope or cut off the wings, but for this purpose those wings got to stay :D
Thanks for stopping by - have a wonderful, relaxing and creative weekend!
I LOVE these transparent butterflies; thanks for all the tips!

This is an incredible card, and what sold me on the set (well...ok... I already knew I had to have it, but this pushed me over!) I love the look of transparencies and stamping white to overlay on black!
Thanks for such a beautiful inspiration piece.
