This week I found three sheets of Basic Grey's Eerie paper in my stash. Although I don't make many Halloween cards, I loved the colors and patterns in this collection and decided to use it in a general fall application.
In addition to the Eerie papers, I chose the Kim Hughes Autumn Trees stamp set, a handful of Copic markers, and a white Prismacolor pencil. (My Eerie papers were the 12" x 12" variety, but they are also available in a 6" x 6" pad.)
I stamped the bare birch tree image in Memento Black ink on Kraft cardstock and colored the tree with the gray Copic markers shown above (C0 and C2). Next, I used a white Prismacolor pencil to lighten one side of the birch tree. I was aiming for a twilight feel, so having shadows on a white tree didn't bother me. Still, I needed some highlights in order so give it dimension, and a white Prismacolor on top of Copic marker is perfect for that. (Do NOT use your markers on top of the Prismacolor since the wax will be harmful to your marker tips.) In this picture, I've left the left branch of the tree without a Prismacolor shading so that you can see it before and after over the gray marker.
I colored the leaf pile with the Copic markers shown above (Y35, Y38, and YR16), and enhanced a few of the leaves with my white Prismacolor pencil before trimming closely around the leaf pile to place it in front of the tree.
Accents are the Baker's Twine and some Paris Dew Drops. I used an Binder Edge punch to punch the strip of patterned paper on the left edge.
