Not every Dad is handy, but I am guessing that a lot of them can paint! I made a card similar to this idea a year ago or so, but it came to mind when I began thinking of Father's Day cards. If you like this idea, you can change out the paint theme for gardening, mechanical or home improvement.
Supplies:
Hero Arts, Folded Card Sets, Sea
Memory Box: C5 Cardstock, Jack O Lantern
Backgrounder, Weave, Mona Lisa Moments, Motivational Centers
Ranger: Adirondack Dye Ink Pad, Pitch Black, Distress Ink Pad, Weathered Wood, Distressed Stickles, Brushed Pewter, UTEE - Ultra Thick Embossing Powder, Black
Studio Acrylic Paint, Yellow Pastel
Basic Grey 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad, Kioshi
Start with 2 orange card bases. Score and fold at 1 inch on the front of the first card base and cut at the fold on another card base so that there is 1 inch on each side
To create the shirt, stamp a weave pattern onto blue paper to give it texture
Cut down a scrap paper that you stamped and machine sew along both edges. Adorn with a button
Add the blue shirt paper to the inside of the card and add the folded orange paper over the front paper flap
Machine stitch along the bottom of the flap and down the center of the orange pocket, forming a pocket on both sides.
punch a hole through all layers, on each end
Thread twill through the holes and tie a knot in the front. This will keep the card closed and form a pocket.
To create custom paper screws, gather craft foam (cut to about a 1 x 1 inch square), UTEE (ultra-thick embossing powder), a Versamark pad and popsicle stick. Brown or grey card stock will look best
Press the foam pad onto the Versamark pad and press it onto brown card stock, pour UTEE powder over the square and tap off excess powder. Set with a heat gun, while the paper is hot, pour UTEE over square and heat again. Repeat one more time so that you have a thick layer of UTEE...immediately press the popsicle stick onto the square and allow to cool
punch a circle from each screw and ink the edges
cover them with a thin layer of Stickes to give them a metallic look.
and use them to embellish a stamped sentiment
to create a custom paint swatch, gather 3 monochromatic colors and a tag
Cut the colors down to 1 1/2 x 2 and place them side by side, making sure to leave a thin white space between. (2 inch tag) You can use this as a card front if you like.
Next, dip a chipboard strip into paint. I sandwiched my chipboard paint strip between a box and it's lid so that the paint would drip down. The wonderful thing about Claudine's paint is that it will dry thick and not run down the stick. I don't know of any other paint that you can achieve this look with.
I printed out a Home Depot card online and cut it out, but I am guessing the man in your life would prefer one that he can use. Change up the colors to coordinate with a Lowes card or any other gift card that you like. I hope you play with this idea and have fun!

Girl - you are so creative! Thank you for this awesome masculine card idea. Guy cards are always the hardest for me to brainstorm but once I get started they are a fun departure from my usual girly-girl cards. I love your ideas for the 'screws' and 'paint stick'. Keep posting your marvelous creations as they are greatly appreciated.
I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t leave comments. I know they are out there soaking up the inspiration but for one reason or another don't comment. Please don't let it hurt your feelings because I know they are there and appreciate your efforts.
What about it ladies? I realize everyone is super busy but it only takes seconds to leave a quick "thank you for the inspiration". Whether you follow the CLASSroom, Inchie INKlings, Simple Dreams, In Touch, or all four like me, let's let Kim and all the marvelously talented members of Ellen’s Design Team - Sharon Harnist, Ellen Hutson, Cindy Lyles, Becky Olsen, Susan Roberts, Julia Stainton, and Lisa Strahl – know how much we appreciate their talent and hard work. Whether a newbie paper crafter or a PRO like these ladies, a little praise goes a long way towards making someone’s day a little brighter. :)
I wish everyone a great Sunday. It’s raining here but that’s okay. It gives me a good excuse to spend the day in my studio. I have lots of projects lined up with a deadline of less than a week! Better get to creating!
PS: Before anyone gets too excited about the word “studio” – it’s actually a converted bedroom. My much loved DIL decided that “Studio” had a much better ring to it that “Craft Room” and it stuck. Some days I call it my “Princess Tower” since it is upstairs and I can look out over the back yard. It’s your room or corner or closet for creating – call it whatever makes you happy! :)
