Great info on using patterned paper and I love the scrapblocks you used!

Julia, this is a wonderful article. And your samples are true Julia style - beautiful. Thank you for your knowledgeable take on mixing patterns.

liannallama

Thanks for the great tutorial. I love how you walked us through your process and your cards are great!

Tiffany

Great article! I love those Scrapblocks!

Lynne Phelps

This was a wonderful article! I am a graphic designer and it can be hard to nudge people away from what feels "safe" towards what will really WORK!! LOL! I love it that you included examples that don't work or lack pizazz and explained why. I will be forwarding this to some friends!

Thanks so much for this article -I needed it. I struggle with putting patterns together and then not understanding why it doesn't "look right" This was perfect and easy to follow.

Julia, reading this tutorial was like sitting down with a friend and looking through a pile of gorgeous paper. You used a 'let's try this' approach that was encouraging, inspiring and fun. It's time to dig into that pile of paper and experiment.

Oh, by the way, the cards you created throughout our talk were fabulous. Thank you for sharing. Nancy

What a great article! I don't have trouble mixing papers but I could never have explained it as well as you did. So simple and easy to follow.

Chris K

Great tips. Thanks for the ideas.

Elaine

Thanks so much for these tips! I admire many projects that have a mix of patterns and this is something I really need to practice. I really like what you did with the strips of paper and cutting out the heart. I think this technique will be a good starting point for me to practice! It'll help me use up those scraps too!

Kathleen

Thanks for all the tips on mixing papers---I'm a huge fan of several stampers who use patterned paper generously and with ease, but I'm pretty intimidated when it comes to doing it myself---I do have TONS of paper though and I really should use it---you've inspired me to give it a try! Thanks for your time!

Darlene

Thanks for the tips and all the examples you shared on mixing patterned papers. Your work is so lovely.

Sandra

man, you make it look so easy - for me - not so!
Thanks for the tips!

Thank you Julia for this wonderful lesson. I have always struggled with mixing patterns even as far back as when I had my own line of muslin dolls. I always struggled with finding fabric patterns that would go together. I have since let up a little and just had to relax and just use what naturally appealed to me.

Thank you for this very informative article. I love the 6 x 6 pads of paper (and have quite a few in my collection!) but have never felt brave enough to try mixing patterns. Hopefully, using your guidelines, I can give this a try.

Beverly BL

Thank you so much for this informative tutorial. I did like the papers you picked and the scrapblocks. Think I'll give it a try, cause like you said it is only paper and not a huge investment lost, if it doesn't work out. Also, I have friends who will love it whatever it looks like. Thanks for the boost.

Wow Julia - That was great! The way you write makes it seems like your chatting while you work so we can really understand the process - what works and what doesn't. I'm going to get out of my comfort zone this afternoon and pull out some patterned paper to give this a try! Thanks, Karen U

OMG, Julia, this is a fantastic article!! Those "Gossamer" cards are to die for. And, I absolutely LOVED what you did with the Scrapblocks, especially since I own so many of them! :) I'm off to start getting them inky.... Thanks for putting so much time and work into this!

Lisa Silver (silvergirl)

Gorgeous samples, Julia! I loved your explanation of how to keep balance.

hugs,
lise

Julia -

Wonderful information! Thank you so much! I've always stayed away from patterned paper because they always seemed so big. I mean I'll buy them if they attract me, but then they don't get used because I don't like the eay they look on my card. I love the examples you've shown and your tips. I will try and look at my papers differently now.

Thanks again!

Elaine Allen
