As a working mom sometimes it all gets so overwhelming. I question whether or not I should still be at home with my children. In the long run I know that the choice that I have made is the right one. We found a wonderful camp for Trina to attend during the summer months. Each day she enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities, has made many new friends and has gained self-confidence. One of her favorite activities is a sleep-over they plan for Thursday night. She takes her sleeping bag and sleeps under the stars (weather permitting.)
It is so important to me that I try and do little things for her that will remind her of how special and important she is to me. She has been asking for "mail at camp" the last few days and so today I hope that she enjoys the card I created especially for her.
I felt that the Kim Hughes Bear Hugs stamp set (now PRECUT as well) was the perfect choice! Making smores at camp is just one of the many activities Trina enjoys. As well, I want her to feel the warmth of my hugs, even though I am not there tonight.
To create the window through which the fire appears I used two circle Nestabilities. I first cut my Twilight paper to fit the front of a Mango notecard and then cut and embossed a circle in it. Using this sheet as my guide I then placed the next size die within this window, removed my decorative paper and cut a circle creating a window in the mango notecard.
The fire is stamped and colored on the card interior. It reflects the sentiment that she makes me feel all warm and happy inside. The fire is colored with Copic markers and has orange glitter sparkling in the firelight.
The twigs with marshmallows are fastened between the two layers. To make the marshmallows "poofy" I used liquid applique.
The bear was stamped on one for the patterned papers and highlights were added using Prismacolor pencils to add contrast, shadows and light. The Opaque Essentials pen was used to create the white of this adorable bear's eye. She is then popped up with dimensionals. In real life it is easy to define the bear from the background. I just wasn't able to capture a very good picture of this, but I think you can get the feel of it.
I will be thinking about my sweet girl as she climbs into her sleeping bag tonight and hope that she has a restful sleep under the stars, and that she knows the love I have encompassing her in my "bear hugs."
